Mayor’s Food Drive
Joining together for a hunger free Christmas
During the month of December, businesses, students and communities come together with Mayor Naheed Nenshi to support the Calgary Food Bank. The Mayor’s Food Drive collects important food and funds for families and individuals in need during the holidays and into the New Year.
The 2019 campaign raised a total of $1,269,263 in food and funds. “The generosity of our city is just amazing,” said Mayor Nenshi. “Even as our economy continues to challenge many, so many more Calgarians are helping their neighbours.”
The donations ensure that we can keep pace with the need and Feed YYC. This past year, more than 192,391 lives were affected for a continued high demand of 98,080 hampers. Calgary Food Bank CEO James McAra said, “The need for emergency food continues at unprecedented levels and we do not expect it to ease any time soon. Calgarians are still struggling and thanks to the Mayor and our City, we will continue to ensure that no one goes hungry.”
