We are growing
to better service Calgarians who need food support.
Calgary Food Bank
To better serve Calgarians who need food support, and those who help us with that work, we are growing.
Clients come first, and we have known for some time that to meet ever-growing demand and evolving processing requirements, we would have to expand. We have acquired an additional space, and we will be relocating some of our staff, freeing up capacity for food storage, processing and optimizing the area to serve our clients. Our main location at 5000 11 Street SE remains the hub for clients picking up hampers, Food Link partners, volunteers and food donors.
When the opportunity for new building came along, we were already in the process of implementing changes to better Feed, Lead and Connect to the community. Part of our strategic path was to ensure we had the proper facility to best deliver on our Mission.
Our current 60,000 square foot warehouse at 5000 11 Street SE does not provide sufficient space to operate given the current unprecedented, and rising demand. Before the pandemic we were experiencing limits in capacity for all our processes. Adding the public health requirements of the pandemic to our historically high demand, made sorting, shopping and sharing even more challenging.
We will continue to welcome donations of food at our main location, Door 3, 5000 11 Street SE. Donations of funds will be gratefully accepted at the Annex, our new location: 5020 12A Street SE, starting July 27. Simply ring the doorbell at either building and we will come greet you. Kind of like a hospital during renovations, we will not compromise our services. We will continue to use the main location at 5000 11 Street SE and our existing community agency partnerships and depots to ensure food is available to clients and agencies.
Renovations will begin in our current facility as early as August. Most notably will be a Fresh Produce area that will allow us to accept, process and distribute a greater volume of fresh items for clients and agencies. Clients will not experience any changes in the services we offer. We will continue to ensure Calgary is a hunger-free community.
