About the Illustrator
When Val Lawton was a kid, her favourite books always had great pictures So when it came to drawing her own pictures, she followed in the footsteps of illustrators like Ernest Shepard and Quentin Blake. It turns out Val’s pretty good at it, too, because she’s now written and/or illustrated 26 books. In addition to being a best-selling, award-winning children’s book illustrator, Val also works as an artist-educator with the Learning Through the Arts program, which means she helps kids learn by creating their own art. Val lives in Calgary with her family and two beagles.
